Delighted to be able to confirm officially that from 1 April I will be on sabbatical and heading back to the US for the summer to finish work on my new book with Robert M Entman ‘What’s wrong with the Democrats? Media Bias, Inequality and the Rise of Donald Trump’. I will be based in Washington DC April-July to aid me in my interviews. During that time I am honoured to have been invited to return as a visiting scholar to George Washington University’s school of media and public affairs and I can’t wait to see all my friends there again. I am particularly thankful for the efforts of Prof. Entman, Maria Jackson and Annie Hill who have put in so much work to help organise my visit. I also am excited to be able to spend some of this time as a visiting scholar at Georgetown University’s Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. Then during July and August I have the honour of spending some time as a visiting scholar at the Department of Communication at Stanford University at the invitation of Prof Fred Turner, there I plan to continue my work in the Hoover Archives. While most of the period will be spend working on the book, I will be open to collaborative opportunities and looking forward to several talks and conferences during this extended period. Do get in touch if you are interested in meeting me in the states! Last year at SMPA was wonderful and I am very grateful for the opportunity to spend time with these departments this spring and summer, such great communities of scholars, and again to be able to learn so much about American politics, media and culture during my time in the states before I return to Essex in late August.
