I’ve had the great honour over the last few weeks to be a visiting scholar at George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs.
Prof. Robert Entman invited me and was kind enough to give me his office over the summer and it’s been wonderful meeting so many great people among the staff including Prof Frank Sesno and Prof Bruce Gregory. I also met with Seamus Hughes who is Deputy Director of the Program on Extremism there and conducted a number of interviews. I also met for dinner with Lawrence Wilkerson, Colin Powell’s former Chief of Staff, who it was lovely to see again and kind about the book. While I was there I wrote a blog for CounterPunch on Academic Freedom, Think Tanks and Torture, which you can read here. I got back to Sheffield on Sunday last week and took a week off to learn to drive – my hope is that it will make things MUCH easier next time I visit the US! Here’s me passing my test on Friday! 🙂
Next week it’s off to Riga for the StratCom ‘Perception Matters’ Conference and meeting of the editorial board of Defence Strategic Communication journal.
